A dumb wine lacks flavors and aromas. A dumb wine is similar to a *closed* wine, except that a dumb wine can remain so permanently and may never reach its full potential.
Typically a wine is considered dumb because the wine is too young and its characteristics have not yet developed. In such instances, the wine is simply going through a *dumb phase* and will eventually mature enough to grow out of it. Unfortunately, the occurrence and length of the dumb phase is indeterminate.
Additionally, a wine can taste dumb if it is served too cold. The low temperatures stifle the flavors and scents. However, by letting the wine sit out and contact air, the defining elements of the wine will be released.
The final and rarest cause of a dumb wine is that the wine was poorly made, or the elements were unable to mesh. In these cases, the wine will never age enough to overcome its flaws.
