Bacchus
General Wine Term
Bacchus is the Roman god of wine. Of course, the Roman gods were based on the Greek gods, so the original name of the god of wine is Dionysus. However, the Roman name has gained far more popularity and is more commonly used today.
Bacchus, or Dionysus, was the half-mortal son of Jupiter, or Zeus. It is said that Bacchus traveled the world teaching people the method of turning vines into wine. He is described as having a dual nature, representing both the good and the bad sides of wine. At one moment he would be cheerful and fraternal, at the next he would be angry and abusive.
