Aggressive
Wine Tasting Term
|
|
Aggressive is used to describe a wine with overpowering characteristics of acidity or tannins.
This is not wholly unusual, as both acidity and tannins are required for a wine to preserve its taste. As such, a young wine that is drank before its time will commonly fall victim to being aggressive.
An aggressively-acidic wine will create a harsh, sour sensation in your mouth. An aggressively-tannic wine leads to a disagreeably dry taste in your mouth. In such cases, exposure to air for an open bottle or aging a closed bottle over time helps decrease the aggressiveness by softening the tannins in the wine.
